Think Purple and Pink

Walk to end Alzheimer’s

It was a beautiful day at Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank on Saturday, September 28, as the Riverhead Building Supply team stepped out on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Participants held their End Alzheimer’s flowers high, then strolled the 2 mile farm field route that took them past a field of sunflowers in full bloom.
Over 600 participated in the September 28 event in Yaphank, raising over $147,000 to date. Donations for the event are accepted until the end of the year. If you didn’t have an opportunity to contribute, and would like to now, search for Riverhead Building Supply on the alz.org site by selecting Donate at the top of the page. Funds go to Alzheimer’s research, and support and care for those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.  Walk to End Alzheimer’s events are held in communities nationwide as an annual fundraiser in support of the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Alzhiemer’s Association site  offers resources, help and support to those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers and family members. The association has a round-the-clock helpline, 800-272-3900, to answer questions and provide information.

Think Pink

Now that we are in October, we have turned our fundraising color from purple to pink as Breast Cancer Awareness month begins. Riverhead Building Supply has a number of fundraising events planned during the month, all dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research and the ultimate goal of finding a cure. In New England, funds go to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. In New York, funds go to the American Cancer Society, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Breast cancer affects so many, you undoubtedly know someone who has beaten this disease, or one who has been lost to it.  Whatever your connection is, take a moment to consider how your contribution, large or small, could provide support and treatment, saving another person and their family from the pain and heartbreak of breast cancer.
During the month, join us in a variety of fun and worthwhile activities. A few events that will assist our teams in reaching their fundraising goals include: bake sales at store locations; pink ribbon pins and bracelets for sale; pink bagels for sale; a “paint-and-sip” evening; a special drink for pink tasting at Lenz Winery (NY) and more.
To contribute or to participate with our Long Island team, visit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or follow this link to donate to the walk. The Gloria Gemma Flames of Hope Run/Walk took place Oct. 6 in Providence, RI with several RBS team members completing the 5K walk. While the walk is over, you can still contribute to the RBS team to support the cause. Make a contribution to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, and include Riverhead Building Supply as your team in the comments.
Both organizations share a wealth of information and resources on their sites, be sure to see what they have to offer, and find ways that you can become involved.
