Coastal Kitchen Design in a Caribbean Hue

Colorful Turquoise Cabinetry for a Cheerful Entertaining Space

Kitchen & bath designer Mikayla Valois of Riverhead Building Supply knew this coastal kitchen design was going to be a fun project as soon as she stepped into the client’s home to measure. Her eye was immediately drawn to the most incredible chairs at the dining table. “They were fun, funky, and colorful,” says Mikayla.

The objective for this project was to open up the space and bring in some color. The homeowner wanted to get rid of her dining table and incorporate a large island. To do so without making the space too tight, a wall between the kitchen and living room was removed. This allowed Mikayla to include a large island in the design without overwhelming the space.

This eye-catching kitchen features Landmark Fine Cabinetry by Tedd Wood with French Quarter Reverse Raised Panel doors and slab drawer fronts. Being located right on the water, blue was the natural color choice for the painted finish. “Composed” (SW6472) was the perfect color selection to brighten up this coastal kitchen design. Several details, such as the wood range hood and the decorative legs on the island, were added to the cabinetry to achieve more of a furniture look. An open bookcase was added at the end, and includes a custom toe-kick detail that was repeated on the pantry. The microwave was incorporated into another pantry cabinet, at counter height, to make it both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

White shiplap and faux beams on the tall ceilings tie this kitchen space together, creating a wonderful balance to the bold color of the cabinetry.
